Les Aromes de la Chancellerie – Beaune

A great coffee roaster in Rue Poterne – Beaune – France. Run by grandfather and grand-daughter. Great beans and you can smell when they roast them from miles away.

Les Avises – Selosses restaurant / hotel in Avize.

Pictures tell a thousand words – wine list has some Selosse on the menu. The menu is ‘fixed’ with no choices – on the day we were there for lunch – the main course was lamb – which maybe is not really a Champagne friendly choice.  C’est la vie!

La Part des Anges – Beaune

A hip and cool restaurant/wine bar in Beaune. Good menu – nice feel. Of interest – we tried some Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon 2010 red burgundies – Bourgogne rouge and Chambolle-Musigny villages. Spectacular wines – finesse and power in nice balance. The bourgogne rouge drinks well now,  the Chambolle needs a few months yet. La Part des Anges means the amount of wine lost in the barrel due to evaporation etc.

Aupres du Clocher – Pommard

A superb new restaurant in Pommard – with creative cooking by Jean-Christophe Moutet. Superb winelist and complex food are the highlights.  The 65euro menu included foie gras, hommard, pigeon and creative Eppoisse capuccino. More info soon.

Kazuki’s at The Raglan – Daylesford

We had a superb lunch at a newish East meets West Japanese restaurant in Daylesford. Quality of the ingredients and presentation was excellent – innovative flavours all prepared with real skill! Wine list is well chosen and fairly priced. Clean decor with timber floors and pale walls. Worth a re-visit. In the top three restaurants in Daylesford. www.kazukis.com.au
